Sunny Side Up

I love the practicality of a good knit dress. They are ideal wardrobe pieces for vacation season because you don’t have to worry about wrinkles when you pack them, and I also appreciate the fact that you can dress them up or down depending on the occasion. This pretty marigold dress from Samsoe and Samsoe that I found at Lynn Louisa in Georgetown is the perfect example of a knit dress that should be in everyone’s summer wardrobe. That bold color is an eye catcher that looks particularly good on tan skin, and I love the subtle stripes that give the dress a sporty vibe. Read More »

A Peak at Preakness

Last week, my husband and I attended the Preakness Stakes as guests of the Stronach Group, the owners of the Pimlico race course. I have always enjoyed watching horse races on television (especially in 2015 when American Pharoah won the triple crown at the Belmont Stakes), but have never actually attended one in real life, so this was a big treat. I have to admit that I was just as excited to see the fashion, and of course, the hats that guests would be wearing, as the horses (because let’s be honest, millinery opportunities are few and far between these days unless you’re a member of the Royal Family) .  Read More »

Three Ways to Style a Floral Wrap Dress

I’m a sucker for a good wrap dress, and I have been meaning to add some “floral”  prints to my wardrobe. I came across this style from Just Female in the window of one of my favorite D.C. shopping destinations, Lynn Louisa, and had to have it.  It’s not only pretty, but functional, as it can be styled in so many fun different ways! Easy Breezy Warm Weather Dressing

Although current weather conditions suggest otherwise (what is up with these rainstorms?), before you know it, we will be dealing with hot, sticky, (DC) summer weather. I don’t know about you, but my outfits of choice once the temperature rises above 80 degrees are those that are fashionable, while making the least amount of contact possible with my skin. This ensemble from Just Female (available at Lynn Louisa) is the perfect example of an outfit that transitions easily (and comfortably) from day to night. Read More »

Pajama Street Style

One of my favorite recent trends is sleepwear as streetwear. I love the effortless look and feel of long, unstructured garments that simulate pajamas and a robe (my sleepwear combo of choice) paired with edgy, feminine accessories.  Read More »

Wanderlust Gift Box

Ever wondered what to give that hard to gift person? You know, the one who seems to have everything? Well, now you don’t have to decide on one thing, because Welcome and Wishes has a better solution. Their brilliant yet simple concept is this:  they create pretty themed gift boxes with a curated selection of gifts to fit the interests of the recipient (e.g. “Quiet Contemplation,” “Gifted Gourmand,” “Daily Grind”) or the occasion for the gift (“Something Blue” for a bride and a variety of gift boxes for new parents).

This “Wanderlust” gift box could not be more perfect for someone like me who is always traveling and/or planning their next trip. I absolutely love the soft leather passport cover and matching luggage tag embossed with a mantra that pretty much sums up my view on life, i.e. “Just Go.”

The carry on cocktail kit is so fun! I love a good Moscow Mule so I can’t wait to try this the next time I’m in flight.  The protein bar and gummy snacks are the perfect pick-me-ups when you are in transit, and I love how everything fits neatly into the cute leopard nylon carrying case that will go right into the big tote I carry with me whenever I travel.

And can we talk about that eye patch? I discovered the usefulness of eye patches on my last trip to London (when I couldn’t sleep past 5 am without one) and have become addicted. Needless to say, this one is much cuter than the one Virgin Airlines gave me. I love the soft satin texture and the gold embroidery says it all, because even in my sleep I’m dreaming of my next big adventure.

Welcome and Wishes also offers custom gift boxes, and shipping is free! Such an easy way to make someone’s day with a thoughtful and elegant gift.

Imma cook (not)

Dinner at our house is no simple matter. We try to follow healthy eating guidelines – high protein, low carbs, veggies whenever possible, etc. etc. When it’s just me and my husband, dinner is easy because we basically like the same dishes. But when we have the kids, a whole different level of crazy happens. Read More »
