The LBS (Little Black Sweater)

People often ask me what I enjoy the most about blogging, and my answer is always some version of “meeting creative people.” Those people are not only fellow bloggers, but the people behind the scenes who create or curate the fashion that we bloggers wear. I love meeting emerging local designers, especially women, and am always interested in promoting their creative endeavors. My latest collaboration is with D.C. based Nicole Alfieri, the designer behind the knitwear brand Pico Vela and I must say that it is a match made in heaven.

I love the relaxed fit and versatility of the pieces in the collection. This top, for example, is a loose fitting, short sleeve sweater with a shoulder flutter detail that hangs down the front or back, depending on how you choose to wear it. I actually flipped the top upside down so that the bottom became the top, transforming it into a sexy off the shoulder  number with a flutter detail down the back. It works perfectly for a night on the town.
The soft feel and lovely draping of Pico Vela’s knitwear is also a plus. Each piece is made out of a proprietary blend of bamboo, organic cotton, linen, and viscose yarns.  They hug your body in just the right places and actually mold themselves to fit your body as you wear them.
I love an all black look, but while I think this top would work equally well with a pencil skirt or leather leggings, I opted for these jeans with the flounce on the bottom for an added touch of whimsy. One of my favorite ways to break up a monochrome outfit is with shoes that add a “pop.” I think these leopard heels did the trick (and I am so glad that the leopard trend is still going strong). The low back is definitely a scene steeler – nothing better than a party in the back, am I right?
