I have become quite obsessed with two things lately: kimonos and rooftops. Maybe that’s because they are among the only pleasant things about summer in sticky D.C. once the temperatures start to rise. I fell in love with the lovely rooftop pool area at Insignia on M when I visited it recently, and was thrilled to be able to shoot one of my favorite outfits (featuring a kimono, obviously) in such a dramatic setting.
I like to call this outfit my “boho geisha’ look, and I think you can see why. The pattern and colors of my kimono remind me of the fabrics worn by those famous ladies, and those mules remind me a bit of the shoes they put their bound feet into (Can you even imagine? Oh wait, yes – kind of like wearing Louboutin’s “Pigalle” heels for more than five minutes).
I kept the other details simple, for the most part, like my Lennon sunglasses and small Nile bag in a neutral color. I did step out of my comfort zone with these statement earrings – I love the tassels and, of course, the pop of red that matches the mules.
I’ve had this little black silk slip dress from Cuyana forever, and I love the many different ways that you can wear it. I belted it here to keep the combination from looking a little too much like a robe and nightgown. (This particular kimono is not available on line but I linked a similar one below).
I think this look works day or night. The only thing missing #outfitdetail is a cocktail! Cheers, loves! xx
