Haute Date

I love wearing classic pieces, like a double-breasted black blazer and jeans, in unexpected ways. Anyone can throw a white button down or silk blouse with that and call it a day, but I thought it would be fun to throw some of my favorite athleisure pieces into the mix instead.

Let me clarify that: I picked some very sexy athleisure pieces from my favorite brand, Michi NY to give the outfit some edge. I love the design of that sports bra that combines a lingerie and superhero costume vibe.  That mesh top adds a layer of (mock) discretion.

I’ve always loved a good palazzo or bell bottom pant, and this denim version is no exception. I’ve had them for about fifteen years, but I always love the bohemian feel they bring to an outfit. These are low-waisted, which can be tricky, but luckily I bought this belt a few sizes larger than my waist, so it I was able to buckle it! I don’t usually wear belts with denim, but in this case I thought it pulled the look together. I really like the way the gold buckle compliments the other gold details in the outfit.

I’m  not a big jewelry person, but I’m love with these cool hand made hoop earrings by local designer Second Daughter (can’t wait to show you some more of her beautiful pieces).  Those and the bell-bottom pants are definitely a nod to hippy trends from the 70’s.

To me, this is the perfect look for a date in some swanky venue like a rooftop bar. One final tip: whether your date is with your significant other or your BFF, make sure it involves champagne and a healthy dose of joie de vivre!
